Privacy Policy
Last updated: 30 May 2026.
This is MadeByHomer's privacy policy. It explains what personal data we collect when you use this site or get in touch, why we collect it, and what your rights are. We keep it short and plain on purpose. If anything is unclear, email hello@madebyhomer.com and we'll explain.
Who we are
MadeByHomer is a freelancer collective based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands (KVK 42027185). For anything about your data, reach us at hello@madebyhomer.com. We are the controller for the data described below.
What we collect and why
We only collect what we need for a specific reason:
- When you contact us (the contact form or email): your name, email, your company name or website if you share one, and whatever you write in your message. We use this to answer you and, if it goes somewhere, to do the work. Legal basis: your request and our legitimate interest in replying.
- When you book a call: the booking runs through our scheduling provider, which collects your name, email, and chosen time so the meeting can happen. Legal basis: taking a step you asked for before any agreement.
- When you use the chat: the chat widget stores the messages you send and basic technical details so we can read and reply. Legal basis: your consent (via the cookie banner). The chat sets cookies; see "Cookies" below.
- Basic server logs: like most sites, our host records standard request data (IP address, browser type, time) for security and to keep the site running. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a secure, working site.
Giving us this information is voluntary, but without it we can't reply to you or schedule a call. We do not sell your data, and we don't use it for advertising or profiling.
Cookies
This site uses a small number of cookies. When you first visit, a cookie banner asks whether you agree. The chat and the visit statistics don't load until you accept. The booking widget uses only functional cookies, so it's available right away. The cookies fall into:
- Functional: needed for the site itself to work. These run by default and remember your cookie choice.
- Booking (Cal.eu): needed for the calendar widget to schedule a call. Uses functional cookies only, so it loads right away.
- Chat (Zoho): remembers your chat session and whether you've visited before. Loaded only after you accept.
- Visit statistics (Zoho): data about how the site and the contact form are used (which pages and actions, like completing a booking), so we can see what works. Loaded only after you accept.
You can change or withdraw your choice any time through the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of any page, or by clearing cookies in your browser.
Who we share data with
We use a few outside services to run the site. They only get the data needed for their part, they process it on our instructions, and each has its own privacy terms. These are:
- Zoho (EU data centres), for the chat, the contact form and the follow-up that comes from it, the visit statistics, and the support portal for existing clients;
- a scheduling provider (Cal.eu), for booking intro calls;
- a hosting provider in the Netherlands, for serving the site.
We don't share your data with anyone else unless the law requires it.
All of your data is processed within the European Economic Area (EEA). We don't transfer your personal data to countries outside the EEA.
How long we keep it
We keep your data only as long as we need it. An enquiry that doesn't turn into a project we delete within 2 years of our last contact. For a project, we keep your data for as long as the working relationship and our legal bookkeeping duties require (in the Netherlands, that's a seven-year retention duty for financial records). Chat transcripts and server logs are kept short-term (a few months) for support and security, then deleted.
How we protect your data
Your connection to this site is encrypted (https). The outside services that process data for us do so on our instructions and with appropriate security, and only those who need to help you have access to your data. If you think something isn't right, or you notice misuse, email hello@madebyhomer.com and we'll act on it.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask us to:
- see the data we hold about you, and correct it if it's wrong;
- delete it, or limit how we use it;
- hand over the data you gave us in a portable form;
- object to a particular use;
- withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on it (this doesn't undo what was already done lawfully).
Email hello@madebyhomer.com and we'll sort it out. If you think we've handled your data wrongly, you can also file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
